As the crisp air of September arrives, it brings us the perfect season to reconnect with friends and loved ones, enjoy the outdoors, and renew healthy habits to carry us through the upcoming holidays. Fall is a wonderful time to slow down and savor activities that strengthen both body and spirit.
Here are some activities you can try this fall to enjoy the outdoors and stay active.
Local Highlights
KC Art Fair on the Plaza – Stroll the Plaza, enjoy the creativity of local artists, and take in the beauty of one of Kansas City’s favorite traditions. Sept 19th
Overland Park Fall Festival - featuring artisans, music, and food. Sept 26th - 27th
Louisburg Ciderfest - spans two weekends of family fun, live music, craft booths, a giant pumpkin patch, and plenty of activities for all ages. Watch apples pressed into their famous cider, enjoy warm cider donuts, and a pancake breakfast. Sept 27th - 28th and Oct 4th - 5th
Kansas City Zoo GloWild - this unique and immersive nighttime experience allows guests to adventure through massive, handcrafted artworks on display at the Zoo. Available every Wed - Sun night 6-10pm in September and October
Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead - also has fall themed family friendly activities. The Pumpkin Patch opens Oct 1st
Walking Groups – Lots of neighborhoods have walking trails surrounded by trees make the perfect setting for mindful movement, stress relief, and conversation with a friend. Lets' connect and see about starting a Stretch & Stride Walking Group for the fall here in Corporate Woods.
Celebrate the Season Together
Fall Picnics & Potlucks – Share wholesome seasonal foods like roasted vegetables, apples, squash, and hearty soups. A potluck is a simple way to enjoy nutritious meals while building community.
Backyard & Neighborhood Gatherings – Take advantage of the last warm evenings for cookouts, fire pits, or games with friends and neighbors.
Yard Projects as Family Time – Raking leaves, planting bulbs, or preparing gardens for winter can be fun family projects that double as light exercise.
Healthy Habits for Fall
Choose seasonal organic produce such as squash, apples, pears, and various root vegetables.
Stay active with walks, yard work, or fall sports.
Nurture mental health by staying socially connected — shared meals and conversations are powerful medicine.
Make time to be out in the sun before the days get too short. But also remember to wear sunscreen.
This month, let’s welcome the season by embracing community, nourishing food, and simple activities that keep us healthy inside and out.
