The Fourth of July is a time for fun, food, and fireworks—but it’s also one of the busiest days of the year for emergency departments. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, over 10,000 injuries annually are related to fireworks, with around 73% occurring in the two weeks surrounding July 4th.

Top ER Visits Include:

  • Firework burns and hand injuries

  • Dehydration and heat-related illnesses

  • Foodborne illness from picnics

  • Alcohol-related accidents

  • Pool and water-related injuries

Here are 5 quick ways to stay safe:

  1. Stay hydrated and use sunscreen - at least 40 SPF

  2. Keep food cold to avoid spoilage.

  3. Designate a sober driver or use rideshare apps.

  4. Stick with a friend or “buddy” in public spaces to prevent getting lost or increasing vulnerability.

  5. Supervise kids around water, fireworks and strangers

This holiday, protect your health so the celebration stays joyful.

Have a safe and happy Independence Day!

Warmly,

Your Team at The Center for Intentional Health
